About us

I never had any intention of owning a dog, let alone an Afghan Hound. But one never should say 'never'. It was 1999 when I got a phone call offering an Afghan puppy. What was I supposed to say? I was a student that had very little of own money at that time and buying a puppy was impossible and supporting one was totally out of question. A week later I was owner of a puppy, adoring "koipeliini".

I learned many things during the first years of our Hugo, like where one can pinch enough money to buy even more dogs :D

In October 1999 Liisa (knl Scaramis) asked if I could enter Hugo to Oulu dog show as she was going there with her own dogs so that she could see Hugo. Hugo went BOB-puppy and I had been bitten by a "show fly". Next year Hugo was entered into 12 shows and he went twice BOB, once BOS, once BIG-1 and got 2 CACs (according to the rules of those days it wasn't possible to receive more CACs than two before the age of two years). He got three more BM-placements during his first show year. In 2001 he was shown 12 times in Finland, three times in Sweden and once in Norway. He finished his Finnish Champion title by winning BOB and BIG-3. First time shown in Sweden he received Swedish CAC and became Swedish Champion. First time shown in Norway he received Norwegian CAC and became Norwegian Champion. Next few years we had many things going on, like we moved to Marinkainen and we bought a new puppy (Toby) and 2003 we had our daughter and 2004 we bought a house. It was not that easy to go to shows anymore with a baby in the house so our dogs were shown rarely then. In 2004 Hugo received his first CACIB and after having few shows abroad without any success, I thought that this was it. In 2006 Hugo received his second CACIB and I just HAD to enter him to shows abroad again! In Lithuania in March 2006 without any success, in Sweden in April 2006 without any success, but then AGAIN to Lithuania in December 2006 and he received his third CACIB and CAC and Lithuanian Champion title. I just HAD to enter him again as just one CACIB was missing for his Int Ch title. He received his last CACIB in Latvia 2007 with CAC and Latvian Champion title. Perhaps I shall enter him into few shows as a veteran, time will tell.

Hugo had problems with staying alone so in 2001 we decided to get a companion for Hugo. Options were Basenji and Italian Greyhound. One Basenji bitch found a home before I made a decision and I was offered an IG by Teija Urpelainen. Tare came to live with us in June 2001. He was co-owned with Teija Urpelainen (kennel Necku) who had imported him from Norway.

So I had 2 dogs to show. Tare received his CACs and CACIBs quite easily. Finnish and Norwegian Champion in 2002, Swedish Ch in 2003. Three CACIBs from three countries with 2 BOBs and BM-2 placement. Unfortunately he never got the last one. He was shown after that only in Finland and he received 3 more reserve-CACIBs. Tare died June 2007 without any prewarning. Tare was always a happy one and ready to participate. Until his last day he played with his toys and enjoyed the sun.

In 2002 Scaramis had puppies and one was screaming from the puppy box to me "pick me up! take me!". So Toby moved to us. He was quite adorable as a puppy, lovely shade of brindle on the other side, the other side being totally golden. He grew up to be a really big male (75,3cm) and he is not easy for me to show as I am so short. He has been shown only twice without any success. Maybe after he "grows up" he will be shown as a veteran.

Hugo was starting to age and I was hoping to find a puppy and I found one "just like Hugo" from Agha Djari's. I know everyone else sees their differences but I see how alike they are. Jere came to us in May 2006. He went BIG-1 in his first puppy show and in his second one a week later BIS-1 puppy (over 500 puppies entered). After that he has been shown 8 times so far (June 2007) in official classes. He was second in juniors in the Winner-06 show (out of 11 juniors). He was BM-3 with reserv-CAC at Iisalmi all breed. Jere will be shown few times a year.

Now that Tare has passed away, there is an empty place in the house. I suppose that in the near future there will be another dog in the house if I get a word to say :) So keep checking our homepage for updates and see if I have had my word in it ;)
